Planting bulbs October 2024

The new wildlife garden in Chelsea Park was a large overgrown grassy area next to the wall of Brincliffe Towers. In December 2023 NESST started by planting seven trees.  In October 2024 we cleared and prepared the ground and planted a range of shrubs and perennials. A hibernaculum (a place for small animals like frogs to hibernate) was created to one side.

Design for the Chelsea Park Wildlife garden

The garden is intended to support pollinators such as bumble bees in times of the year when there is little around for them, particularly in the winter and early spring. For example, shrubs like mahonia and sarcococca and spring bulbs like crocus. The plants chosen are also suitable for gardens and a list of the trees and plants used is listed in a downloadable PDF.

We are grateful for two grants from the Local Area Committee and a great team of volunteers!
